Andrea Asken-Dunn, French & ESL - Oxford Hills School District
Secretary
Andrea came to Maine with the idea of homesteading, but soon realized she was much too lazy! Nonetheless, she and her (future) husband started building their own house in 1983, and it just kept growing. They hope to complete it before they retire. They lived off-grid for 30 years and homeschooled two children. Gradually they expanded their garden, added some apple trees, nut trees and chickens, and now homesteading doesn’t look quite so far away. They are excited to have recently discovered Permaculture, which magically brings together the loose threads of many of their values and interests. After homeschooling, Andrea taught French, and now teaches ESL at Oxford Hills School District. She loves art and languages, and plays Renaissance music in the Society for Creative Anachronism. Andrea was on the board back when Fare Share made the move to Maine Street. A lot has changed since then!

Peter Kreiner, Brandeis University, Social Policy and Management
Treasurer
After decades of living in cities (Los Angeles, Boston) Peter and his wife Carol have, for the past five years, been building a cabin in Greenwood, Maine on 11 acres of mostly wooded foothills. Although he’s always been a backyard gardener, using French intensive and organic methods, he’s now able to grow vegetables on a much larger scale. Peter is edging into retirement from the world of academic research on prescription opioid and related issues, which allows him to bring grant writing and data skills to working on the Board. Although he still lives in Boston, Peter is looking forward to spending more and more time in Greenwood, relearning from his ‘60’s hippie days how to make delicious bread from freshly-ground whole-grain flours in a wood-fired brick oven he plans to construct, working in the vegetable garden, co-existing with the flies and ticks, and relaxing on his deck watching the wild turkeys shepherd their young through the blackberries and goldenrod down the hill.
Rachel McGarry
Board Member
Rachel, whose interest in food and its impact on health, harbors a firmly rooted passion for good nutrition, which she expresses in daily life as much through her career as a registered dietitian and diabetes educator as she does in her home, brewing her own kombucha, making yogurt, and digging in the garden. With a focus on real foods and a belief that food is an integral part of disease management and prevention, Rachel is eager to play a role through Fare Share Co-op and assist the Oxford Hills to become a healthier and happier community.

Zizi Vlaun, Center for an Ecology-Based Economy (CEBE)
President
Zizi began working for the organic seed movement in mid 90s with Seeds of Change in Santa Fe where she met her husband Scott Vlaun. After leaving Taos, New Mexico, she moved to New York City to work for Waters Design Associates and realized that it was not a nurturing path. With Scott they moved to Maine and decided to grow some roots. Their first branches into the community came through Fare Share Co-op and continued to grow from that fertile ground. Zizi and Scott started Moose Pond Arts+Ecology in 1999 and continued their work with Seeds of Change producing seed catalogs, websites, seed packs, etc. and took on many other projects for the community as well, including the Oxford Hills Magazine. After all of that “career” craziness, Zizi began refocusing her life and is currently working for resiliency locally by working for an ecology-based economy for the area through the Center for an Ecology-Based Economy (CEBE), by raising a wonderful son named Jasper, and by supporting Fare Share Co-op with an eye on creating a robust and resilient local food system.
